This is a high-quality pressed steel reproduction of the early brake push bar cable cover (German: Deckel (für Bremsseillagerkopf)), finished in black zinc plating just like the original wartime version.
The cover secures the ends of the brake cables seated inside the brake push bar, preventing them from slipping out.
This early type corresponds to the earliest version of the brake push bar used on KdF Beetles and Kübelwagens up to around 1944, designed for the early style chassis.
