Limited slip differential sliding element.
We are proud to introduce the Sliding Pin, also known as the “Gleitstein” or “Jelly Bean”, for ZF (Zahnradfabrik Friedrichshafen) limited slip differentials (LSD). In Z-F’s self-locking differential design, steel rounded dowels are combined with two side gears and a central steel cage to create a locking action when a significant speed difference occurs between wheels. Our LSD “jelly beans” are made from wear-resistant heat-treated material, ground to meet nominal dimensions with tolerances specified in the original VW documentation.
ZF limited slip diff was originally designed to improve off-road capabilities of World War II era Volkswagen vehicles, such as the KdF Beetle Type 82E, Type 82 Kubelwagen, and Schwimmwagen Type 166. Our LSD differential can be used as a performance part for all aircooled VW`s with split case gearbox, including 25hp/30hp Type1 beetle, Type 2 bus, Type 3, Karmann Ghia.
Two decades after second world war ended Porsche decided to adapt proven ZF technology to their Porsche 356B as a performance upgrade. ZF LSD diff can be fitted to Porsche 356 Pre-A, 356A, 356B and 912 up to 1960.
Friction that occurs in a locking diff causes the sliding pins to wear irregularly. When overhauling your Volkswagen differential, it is recommended to consider buying a set of 17 pins. Do not mix used pins with new ones, as this can cause failure of the locking mechanism.
When purchasing LSD jellybean consider adding to your cart following items:
Complete LSD differential
Cage for LSD pins
Differential side gear 9 indents
Differential side gear 8 indents
