Water Drain Panel (Gerätekasten Wasserablaufblech)
This water drain panel is a faithful reproduction of the original component used on early Volkswagen Type 82 Kübelwagen vehicles from approximately 1941 until the beginning of 1943.
The panel was spot-welded inside the engine compartment on vehicles that were not factory-equipped with the external air intake duct (Ansaugluftführung).
On the earliest Kübelwagen produced from 1940, rainwater entering through the engine cooling air intake opening above the engine could fall directly onto the engine. Since this opening was essential for supplying cooling air, it could not simply be covered. Volkswagen engineers therefore introduced this internal water drain panel, which allowed cooling air to enter while diverting rainwater away from the engine.
From approximately 1943 onwards, the external air intake duct (Ansaugluftführung) was introduced. As this provided the necessary rain protection, the internal water drain panel was no longer required and was omitted from production.
Manufactured exactly like the original, this panel is an essential component for the accurate restoration of early Volkswagen Type 82 Kübelwagen vehicles.
