    Description

Rear Compartment Rubber Weatherstrip (engine and luggage lids)

This rubber weatherstrip is installed in the body rain channels on both the left and right sides of the engine lid and rear luggage lid on the Volkswagen Type 82 Kübelwagen.
It fits directly into the channels of the body and extends all the way under the removable rear cross panel, which was used on bodies from body number 15371 onward.

The weatherstrip prevents dust and dirt from entering both the engine and luggage compartments.
In the case of the engine compartment, it also seals the lid against the suction of dust and hot air, ensuring proper cooling performance and keeping the compartment clean.

Supplied in two pieces, each 55 cm long, the rubber has a D-shaped profile with dimensions 12 mm wide × 7 mm high.
It has been faithfully reproduced from original surviving examples removed from unrestored wartime body shells — a very rare find, as these seals were almost always missing in postwar restorations.

Few people are even aware that these rubber strips were originally fitted, but their existence is confirmed beyond doubt, as they were personally removed from untouched original vehicles.
An authentic and often overlooked detail that adds true originality to your Kübelwagen restoration.

    Earlier versions:
On Kübelwagens produced up to body number 15370, the seal was riveted to the lids instead of being mounted in the channels, and it was made from a cotton fabric strip rather than rubber.
