Description
Oil Bath Air Filter (Ölbadluftfilter) – 1942 to mid-1943 Type 82 / Type 166
This is a high-quality reproduction of the oil bath air filter used from 1942 to approximately mid-1943 in Volkswagen Type 82 Kübelwagen, and in all Volkswagen Type 166 Schwimmwagen up to the beginning of 1944.
The filter is supplied unpainted and includes the internal filtering element. It is made identical to the original version, with all filter components pressed from sheet metal, not spun.
The internal filtering element is manufactured exactly like the original. For correct operation, before first use the filtering element should be lightly oiled. The recommended method is to immerse the element in clean engine oil and then blow out or drain the excess oil, so that the internal wire mesh remains only lightly coated. This light oil film allows dust and dirt particles to adhere properly to the filter element.
The oil bath housing must also be filled with engine oil up to the marked level, as proper oil level is essential for correct filter operation.
When purchasing this oil bath air filter, consider adding the following items to your cart:
– Air intake pipe
– Intake rubber hose
– Water-slide decal
– Air filter bracket
From approximately 1941 onwards, until this type of oil bath air filter was replaced by the later cyclone filter system, Volkswagen Type 82 Kübelwagen bodies were equipped with a 34 mm air intake pipe mounted in the side wall of the engine compartment. The same arrangement was also used on Volkswagen Type 166 Schwimmwagen vehicles. To connect the intake tube on the filter with the pipe mounted in the body, a special connecting pipe was used. Complete sets with rubber hoses are also available.
– Air intake pipe
– Air intake pipe kit
