Battery Tray / Base Plate – (Rahmen Batterieboden)
This is the battery base plate spot-welded to the left floor panel in early versions of the Volkswagen Type 82 Kübelwagen, used most likely up until the end of 1942.
In the earliest models, this plate served directly as the base for the battery, which was secured with battery straps holding the battery lid.
When heating was introduced in the Kübelwagen, the battery was placed inside a protective gray battery box, which still stood on this same base plate. The hole in the plate was intended for welding in an M8 nut, used to bolt down the battery box. In versions with battery lids instead of the box, this hole was not necessary.
